Digital Britain is good news for online marketing
The report covers areas from broadband and its required infrastructure, to digital radio and public service broadcasting, but there are also big implications for using online marketing, including services such as search engine optimisation (SEO), pay per click (PPC) and email marketing.
Lord Carter notes that each UK adult now spends just under half of their life accessing communications such as TV, radio and the internet. This is a very important trend to note - this usage will lead to a continual demand for services and advertising / marketing services.
Communications is the third-largest sector in the country, up there with energy and finance industries and is just as vital to Britain’s economy, accounting for around eight per cent of GDP each year.
By 2020, 20% of all money spent in the UK will be online. This is key as at some point online will surpass high street sales, and therefore all companies need to have an effective online marketing strategy in place. If a company is not up to speed on effective web and online marketing yet, it is not too late, but it must be addressed.
Digital Britain can make us internationally competitive and help with the currecnt recession. The internet and the communications sector as a whole, means British companies and smaller firms especially can compete within an international market. With effective use of online marketing and a good idea, any business can make a success.
Lord Carter recognises that without a decent digital infrastructure, this country would fall behind in competitiveness, resulting in an economic loss. What is true for the country is true for individual firms - the more the internet is used, the successful companies will be the ones that are making the most of online marketing and the web as a whole.
Overall this report confirms that all companies need to take their web and online marketing strategy very seriously, and this is not a fad which is going to blow over.
