Following the announcement of Google's Caffeine update last month, we've been testing the differences between current Google rankings, and Google Caffeine rankings.
What is Google Caffeine?
Google have announced a rewrite of their indexing system, labeled Google Caffeine. It's said to be one of the biggest updates to Google's indexing, since the Big Daddy update of 2005/06. However, Google say that users shouldn't notice too much of a difference straight away in terms of rankings.
Google are essentially looking to launch an index which is more powerful and robust, allowing:
* A quicker engine
* A larger set of results
* A more relevant / accurate set of results (including more up-to-date / up-to-the-minute results)
What we think?
We've noticed differences of up to 5 positions either way, when comparing current Google and Google Caffeine for the same keywords. However, most of the keywords we checked had pretty similar rankings.
Essentially, it's a further movement towards rewarding domains with good authority - sites with a large amount of highly relevant, quality and valued unique content, with is updated regularly, and encourages other authority sites to link in as a result.
If you are looking to make your own comparisons, the Compare Caffeine tool allows you to compare results side-by-side.
