Google vs Facebook Round One
Google is preparing to enter the world of social networking and meet Facebook head on. In May 2007, Facebook opened up it's site to third party developers resulting in a huge number of applications being introduced to the platform. With Facebook claiming around 50 million active users of it's social networking service, Google hopes to join forces with a number of partners and predicts a base of 100 million users.
As if in direct response, Facebook (valued at £15 billion) has just started the profitable march towards targeted advertising. This is crossing in to a realm dominated by Google and in order for it to work, Facebook must ensure that the right ads, reach the right people; and boy does Facebook have a lot of people to reach.
If they are able to develop a targeted ad delivery program then, in the words of Findory founder, Greg Linden, '"The problem isn't that they can't make revenue, it's that the expectation is so high on the amount of revenue that they can make."
All of this comes only two years after the birth of Facebook, so who knows which company will hold prominence in another two, five or ten years. One thing you can be sure of is that Refreshed Media will continue adapting to the newest technology and software, delivering the most relevant and dynamic online marketing around.
