New Google tool shows real search volumes

Google’s new keyword tool debuted last week, much to the delight of advertisers and marketers. Now information vital to their advertising efforts is readily available.

With the new keyword tool now operational AdWords advertisers and everyone else in the world can now see the approximate number of search queries carried out on Google for any keyword.

With two new sets of data – including the approximate search volume for the previous month and the average search volume for the each month over the past 12 months, advertisers who want to create a new ad around a particular keyword can now do so.

Search volume of any keyword will fluctuate depending on seasonality and current events of course, but Google also expects a fluctuation depending on where the tool is accessed from as well.

If the keyword tool is accessed from within an ad group, the statistics available will include details regarding the ad campaign in that particular country and language. If a specific region or city is targeted, then only that region’s statistics are reflected.

If the external keywords tool or any third party application built using the Google AdWords API is used, then the statistics will vary according to the country and language selected.

The statistics provided will also vary depending on whether advertiser selects broad, phrase or exact match when using the tool.

Advertisers will be able to plan budgets, select the most effective keywords and reach the broadest audience. It’s a break from tradition for Google who has traditionally kept a tight lock on click through rates and specific search volumes.

With their recent launch of Google Trends for Websites, then the Google Ad Planner and now the search volumes feature on their Keyword Tool they’re now helping traditional media agencies view them as a regular advertising channel rather than a simple search engine.
